• Alteration of auditory feedback results in 50-95% stuttering reduction in 80-90% of the stuttering population who try it.
• Use of altered auditory feedback reduces stuttering regardless of rate of speech; implying that people who stutter need not be asked to reduce their rate of speech to achieve fluency.
• The fluency effects of altered auditory feedback are more robust and satisfactory (about 50-95%) than masking noise (about 40-50%).
• Use of altered auditory feedback has been shown to be effective when speaking in front of an audience.
• Use of altered auditory feedback has been shown to be effective when speaking on the telephone.
• No differences in the effectiveness of altered auditory feedback when used either in the right or the left ear.
• Binaural use of altered auditory feedback in both ears provides the most effective fluency enhancement, however early results have shown that monaural use is robust enough not to warrant binaural use.
• Results indicate that fluency effects are generalized to a variety of speaking situations (speaking on the phone, giving lectures, ordering at a restaurant, social conversation, and many more).
• The personal experience of patients who have tried the device during the trial phase report that the signal is clear and not distracting in most environments.

Treatment Approaches
   Fluency devices developed by Janus Development Group, Inc. are custom made for each client, and the amount of fluency generated by the use of the product will likely differ from person to person.  The fluency device will provide noticeable and sometimes immediate results, regardless of other treatment methods being utilized.

• Fluency devices can be used either in combination with traditional therapy approaches or by themselves.
• Use results in automatic, natural sounding fluent speech for those who respond favorably to the effects of altered auditory feedback.
• Use of continuous phonation, minimal prolongation, and other approaches may enhance the effectiveness of the device.
• The amount of additional therapy needed to establish fluent speech will vary among individuals.
